Renowned producer PKR Pillai passes away; produced superhit films such as 'Chithram' and 'Vandanam'

THRISSUR: Producer PKR Pillai, who produced several superhit films in Malayalam, passed away at the age of 92. Pillai breathed his last at his residence in Pattikkad in Thrissur. He had been undergoing treatment for age-related ailments.

PKR Pillai, who produced box numerous superhit films starring Mohanlal and Mammootty under the banner Shirdi Sai Creations, is a native of Koothattukulam in Ernakulam.

Some of the films produced by Pillai are 'Thathamme Poocha Poocha', 'Vepraalam', 'Onathumbikkoru Oonjaal', 'Puli Varunne Puli', 'Oru Yugasandhya', 'Shobhraj', 'Amrutham Gamaya', 'Chithram', 'Vandanam', 'Arhatha', 'Kizhakkunarum Pakshi', 'Aham', 'Rapid Action Force', 'Oomappenninu Uriyadappayyan' and 'Pranayamanithooval'.

Pillai, who ran a business in Mumbai, maintained a wide circle of friends from all walks of life. He was a close friend of Indira Gandhi and has a history of running as a Congress candidate for the Mumbai Municipality. He settled in Thrissur 12 years ago after resigning from business. The funeral will take place tomorrow evening.
