Mobile phone blast in Thrissur; 76-year-old makes miraculous escape after fire spreads through shirt

THRISSUR: In yet another incident of mobile blast, a 76-year-old man was saved after the phone kept inside his shirt blasted in a trice. The incident occurred at 10:30 am. The Marottichal native Elias escaped unhurt miraculously as fires spread through his shirt in no time after the blast.

The CCTV visuals show Elias throwing his phone away after the blast produced a blaring noise. Albeit shooing away the phone, the fire spread through his shirt. He escaped from burn for wearing another set of inners beside his shirt. Elias says he had a close shave and murmurs luck favored him this time. Last month, another case was reported from Thrissur where a schoolgirl suffered burns on her face and eventually succumbed to death after a mobile blast. Elias bought the phone last year at just Rs 1000.
