THAZHAVA: It has been alleged that a three-and-a-half-year-old boy was expelled from an anganwadi in Kollam. Al Ameen, son of Kulashekarapuram native Shamnad and Thalsila, was allegedly expelled from the Punnakkulam Number 113 Anganwadi under the leadership of a member of Gram Panchayat.

The incident took place last Wednesday. The anganwadi operates in a shed on the house premise of a private individual. The Gram Panchayat member expelled the child from the anganwadi alleging that the child's grandfather had clicked pictures of employment guarantee workers working in a nearby area as he came there to drop the child at the anganwadi.

The authorities, who first expelled the child from the class, later summoned his mother and sent him home. However, the Gram Panchayat is raising the strange claim that a student living in the 12th ward must not study in the anganwadi in the 13th ward. The child's parents have lodged a complaint with the Karunagappally police, ICDS authorities, Child Rights Commission and Gram Panchayat Secretary.
