From Army to Marine Commandos; Security forces step up vigil in Srinagar ahead of G20 summit

SRINAGAR: Tight security has been put in place in Srinagar which is gearing up to host its first G20 summit. Security forces such as Army, BSF, CRPF, SSB and NSG have put the lake city in a security blanket. These forces are remaining alert on water, land and sky.

Heavy security has been deployed in Srinagar following intelligence reports that terrorists may target the G20 meeting. The meeting will be held at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Center in Srinagar. The Convention Center is located on the banks of Dal Lake. Therefore, India's special marine force MARCOS (Marine Commandos) has taken control of Dal Lake.

"We have made all the security arrangements for the upcoming event. There will be three-tier security in place for the event. Anti-drone equipment is being set up. We are taking the help of NSG and the Army for the same. For the water body- Dal Lake - we will depute a team of MARCOS, also a Police team will be present there," ADGP Vijay Kumar said.

Holiday has been announced for schools in Srinagar. Additionally, the state's minorities, including Kashmiri Pandits, have been told to take time off of work.

The G20 meeting will take place from May 22 to May 24. More than 100 delegates are expected to participate in the meeting. It is indicated that China and Turkey will not attend the meeting.
