NEW DELHI: In the wake of taking no action against Wrestling Federation President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh following sexual allegations, the players are planning to intensify their strike. The strike in the coming days will focus on places of worship and historical monuments. The wrestlers' move is to decide the future course of action together with the Khap Panchayat.
The time given by the wrestlers to the government to arrest Brij Bhushan ends today. It has been decided to intensify the strike in order to gain more media attention as no action has been taken so far. As a part of this, wrestlers came to the stadium where the IPL match was held yesterday with placards. If he is not arrested, the consequences will be serious. The decision of Khap Panchayat will be severe. The wrestlers have also warned the centre not to label it as anti-national later.
The strike committee is thinking moves including surrounding Delhi's border. It has been announced that the strike will be spread outside the Jantar Mandar. If he is not arrested, the players will light a candle in front of the India Gate on Tuesday evening and protest.
Meanwhile, it is reported that there may be a move from the centre to end the strike as early as possible. The support for the strike, including from the farmers, is prompting the Centre and the BJP to take such a move. The party fears that if the strike is not ended soon, it may harm the upcoming elections in Haryana. Losing power in Karnataka is a setback for the party. One more setback is too much for them to bear. Meantime, the party fears that if Brij Bhushan is arrested, there may be a political backlash in UP.
