NEW DELHI: Opposition parties will likely stay away from the inauguration of the new Parliament building. Various opposition parties had criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inaugurating the new Parliament building and choosing Savarkar's birthday for the occasion. Parties including Congress have come out with public response on the issue. But despite the controversy, the central government is going ahead with the inauguration of the Parliament. MPs have already received the invitation letter for the inauguration ceremony scheduled on May 28.

The opposition have also voiced their objections to PM Narendra Modi inaugurating the new Parliament building; they have instead proposed that President Droupadi Murmu should be entrusted with this honour. At the same time, the dispute over the inauguration of the Parliament had led to an argument between the Congress and the BJP.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that the central government has shown disrespect to President Draupadi Murmu by not inviting her to the inauguration of the new Parliament complex. Under the BJP government, the office of the President of India has been reduced to a mere token, Kharge alleged.
