Odisha train disaster: CM MK Stalin announces Rs 5 lakh for families of the dead

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those who died in the Balasore train accident in Odisha. Stalin announced that Rs 1 lakh will be given to the injured. A day of mourning was observed in Tamil Nadu.​
He reached the State Emergency Operation Center in Chennai and assessed the situation.


Stalin informed that the state government is working with the Odisha government in the rescue operation and a special train has been arranged for the families of the victims. He said that he spoke to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and assured all possible help. A team comprising ministers Udaya Nidhi Stalin, SS Sivashankar and senior officials has reached Odisha to coordinate rescue operations. Officials informed that the exact number of passengers and dead from Tamil Nadu has not been received and steps are being taken to do so. People who know the ones who traveled in the train have been informed to contact the helpline as soon as possible.
