THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Southwest monsoon is likely to reach Kerala on Sunday. Presently Monsoon has reached Minicoy Island in Lakshadweep. Meteorological department forecast that it will reach Kerala today. There is also concern that it could the state at a later time. Even after reaching Lakshadweep, the Meteorological Department has not clarified whether there are favorable conditions for it to advance. In the past few days, the rainfall in Kerala was very less. The monsoon started ten days late in Sri Lanka.
Atmospheric gyres in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal influence the monsoons. A trough will form over the Southeast Arabian Sea by Monday. Low pressure is likely within two days. If the depression moves away from the coast, the onset of monsoon will be weak and will be stronger if it is close to the coast. If monsoon arrives, more rain is likely in central and southern districts.
