THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In case of damage to the road camera due to collision with the vehicle, the settlement will be collected from the vehicle owner, in cases where compensation can be collected from them. In cases leading to legal action, the Department of Motor Vehicles will pay for fixing the camera. The cost will be reimbursed to the Department of Motor Vehicles on completion of the case. 10 newly installed cameras were destroyed by collision with vehicles.

677 cameras are solar-powered. The images captured by the cameras are processed automatically (edge processing).

Capturing, processing and sending images of vehicles committing traffic violations such as not wearing seatbelts and helmets, riding two-wheelers on two-wheelers, using mobile phones while driving, to a server in a central control room for storage, is fully automated.

Deep learning techniques, a branch of machine learning, are used to detect vehicles that violate traffic rules. After verification by the government committee, the amount of the camera project will be transferred to Keltron in 20 quarterly installments over 5 years. Keltron will pay the tender amount of Rs 151.22 crore to the contract company SRIT in 20 equal installments. The total cost of the project is Rs 232 crore.

The meeting had tasked the Safe Kerala Monitoring Committee headed by the Additional Transport Commissioner to ensure that the cameras are working properly and to issue certificates as per the Central Vehicle Act. The committee report was handed over on the 3rd.
