Sharad Pawar removed, Ajit Pawar named NCP chief; Ajit faction gives letter to Election Commission

MUMBAI: After the NCP split, the Ajit Pawar faction has removed Sharad Pawar from the post of party president. Ajit faction has sent a letter to the Election Commission saying that Ajit Pawar has been elected as the NCP president. Ajit Pawar was elected as the party president in a meeting chaired by NCP working president Praful Patel.

Meanwhile, both factions have written to the Election Commission claiming the right to the name of the party. Both factions of the NCP organized separate meetings in Mumbai today. While 32 MLAs attended the meeting of the Ajit Pawar faction and 16 MLAs attended the meeting called by Sharad Pawar faction. NCP has a total of 53 MLAs. Ajit Pawar faction needs the support of 36 MLAs to avoid disqualification.
