MUMBAI: Kuttanad MLA Thomas K Thomas has been elected as the state president of the NCP Sharad Pawar faction. The decision was made during a meeting held in Mumbai under the leadership of the party's national president Sharad Pawar. Forest Minister AK Saseendran argued in favour of Thomas K Thomas. PC Chacko, who resigned from the state president position, will continue as the national working president.

PC Chacko resigned from the state president's position last Wednesday under strong pressure from supporters of Saseendran. The Saseendran faction had been attempting to pass a resolution to remove PC Chacko from the president's position by calling for a meeting of the state council. PC Chacko unexpectedly submitted his resignation while they were in the process of collecting signatures for this move.
