MARAYUR: After Arikomban, it is Padayappa who is hunting for rice now. Padayappa ate a sack of rice from the place where workers of Pamban Hill of Marayur are staying. The incident happened last night. Padayappa broke the doors and windows of the layam, the place where the laborers of the plantation of Pampan Hill lived, pulled out a sack of rice kept inside and ate it all. The locals chased the elephant away by bursting firecrackers and making noise.

Sixteen families live in the layam of Pamban Mala. Padayappa broke the doors and windows of the houses of Rajendran and Karuppu Swamy. The locals said that this is the first time they are seeing Padayappa eating rice. Padayappa was an elephant who had never harmed anyone. Now that the nuisance of the elephant has increased, the locals have come forward demanding action to drive Padayappa into the forest. Padayappa has been in Marayur for two weeks. Padayappa, which lives in the wild in the Pampan Hills and Chattamunnar, occasionally visits the populated areas. However, when the elephant came yesterday, it caused a lot of damage.
