Disability reservation denied in medical college attendant post; says principal favored nepotism

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: New rumors found a place in the news after accusations surfaced about rampant nepotism and back door appointments in the permanent post for grade-2 attendants in medical college. It says that the appointments breached the implementation of disability reservation seats. A total of 2022 names of candidates from 2556 were transferred to officials from the employment exchange. The medical college principal selected 178 candidates from the list and the 4% reservation seats according to the Disability Protection ACT didn't find its place. It was Kerlakaumudi’s scoop yesterday that brought the news to public light.

The news about the nepotism scam popped out after Kumarapuram native M Harikrishnan wrote a complaint to the disability commissioner in Kerala. The 31-year-old Harikrihsnan is 60% mentally challenged. On April 27, 2022, the commissioner ruled in favor of Harikrishnan and asked the officials to expedite Hari’s appointment within 15 days. Alas, the words were paid no heed by the officials and the appointment lagged. Permanent recruitment to the posts of Part Time Sweeper, Part Time Watchman, Hospital Attendant, etc. is carried out through Employment Exchange. According to medical college officials, the employment exchange has instructed to implement just economic and social reservations. It is accused that the medical college principal stayed away from attending the two hearings scheduled by the commissioner in 2023.

The same principal however retired from service on April 30. If Harikrishann is readying moves to go ahead with criminal prosecution against the principal, service benefits to the principal should not be paid until the case gets completed.
