SHILLONG: Five security personnel sustained injuries after a mob attacked the office of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in Tura on Monday night. The Chief Minister was in Tura to hold discussions with the protestors who are demanding that Tura Town be made the winter capital of the state.

Organizations from Garo Hills have been on hunger strike for a long time raising this demand. Stones were hurled by the mob when the Chief Minister was holding a meeting with some of the protesters in his office. As people started pelting stones, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and another minister got trapped inside the office.

Police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd. The Chief Minister could not be brought out of the office even late at night. Hundreds of people have gathered outside the office.
