Today is Chingam 1, 'Atham' on Sunday

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Today is Chingam 1, the first day of the month with the Onam festival. The coming Sunday is Vinayaka Chaturthi, which is also 'Atham' on Malayalam calender. Uthradam is on August 28 and Thiruvonam on 29th. Ramayana month ended yesterday evening and special Vinayaka poojas will be held in the temples on Sunday.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the state-level Farmers' Day celebration and distribution of farmers' awards at Nishagandhi Auditorium at 2 pm today. Minister P Prasad will be the Chairman. This will be accompanied by the inauguration of Kerala Agro Business Company (KABCO) and the announcement of the Poshaka Sammridhi Mission organized by the Department of Agriculture as part of the expansion of vegetable and small grain farming.
