KOZHIKODE: Human rights activist Gro Vasu who protested in front of the college mortuary against the police shooting of Maoist leaders will remain in jail. The Kunthamangalam court sent Gro Vasu to jail as he was not ready to be granted bail in the case where he was accused of participating in a group and obstructing the road.
The trial in the case began yesterday. Two investigating officers were examined but two witnesses did not appear. The magistrate noted that he was an elderly man and requested that the trial should not be prolonged. Gro Vasu told the court that he had no objection to the charge sheet. The next trial will be held on the 4th of the upcoming month.
The police prevented him from interacting with the media this time as he had criticized the government and the chief minister during his previous appearance. Despite this, Gro Vasu shouted slogans and protested. His face was covered with a police cap while he was being loaded into the vehicle.
On July 29, when he was brought before the Kunthamangalam court following the warrant he was remanded in custody as he refused to accept bail. Although he was offered release on his own recognizance he was not willing to sign the documents.
Gro Vasu, a 94-year-old is one of the earliest Naxal activists.
