THRISSUR: CPM state secretary M V Govindan said that UDF candidate Chandy Oommen will not win in the Puthuppally by-election without getting the BJP votes. He said there is doubt whether the UDF bought BJP votes in Puthuppally and it will be clear only after the votes are counted. Govindan added that Chandy Oommen would not win if the UDF did not buy BJP votes.
"We have got figures from the grassroots level. The only issue is that there is a doubt whether the UDF bought the BJP votes in the region. BJP has nearly 19000 votes there. We will get clarity regarding this only after the counting of votes. Chandy Oommen will not win if the UDF did not buy BJP votes," Govindan said. He said that no matter who wins, the majority will be very small.
Govindan also reacted against Chennithala's statement that the result in Puthuppally will be a huge blow to the LDF government in Kerala. He said that the election result would be proof of the people's faith in the government.
"Who will win and who will lose is objective. There is no point in making claims now. We had said in the beginning that we were not making any big claims. We had said before that we are likely to win as a result of our large-scale organizational-political activities. We stand by this word even now," he added.
