KOLKATA: Every Indian citizen was made proud when Chandrayaan 3 landed on the Moon's south pole. Following this, various news reports regarding Chandrayaan 3 were discussed on social media and other platforms. Many were seen jokingly saying that they could now buy some land on the moon. However, a recent report has claimed that a man from Bengal has bought a piece of land on the Moon as a birthday gift for his wife.

Sanjay Mahato, a native of Jhargram district in West Bengal, surprised everyone by registering one acre of land on the moon in his wife's name. According to sources, he spent Rs 10,000 to buy one acre of land on the moon.

“Me and my wife were in love for a long time and got married last April. I had then promised to bring the Moon to her. I couldn’t live up to that promise. But now, on her first birthday after our wedding, I thought why not gift her a plot on the Moon,” Mahato said.

With the help of a friend, Mahato bought land on the moon through the Luna Society International. "The moon has a special place in our hearts. I cannot give a bigger gift than this on my wife's birthday. That is why I did this," he added.

Mahato is not the first one to buy land on the moon. Rupesh Masan bought a piece of land on the moon a few days ago. He bought the land after Chandrayaan made the soft landing on the moon's surface.
