KOZHIKODE: Authorities have relaxed the restrictions in Kozhikode district as no new Nipah cases were reported in the district. Relaxations have been announced in regions that were declared containment zones from September 13. Shops can operate till 8 pm. The district collector's order also states that banks can operate till 2 p.m. Meanwhile, other restrictions will remain in place.
352 people came in close contact with those infected with Nipah. 129 of them are health workers. There are 127 people in the contact list of Cheruvannur native, who was the latest to contract Nipah. Out of the six people who had Nipah, two died. The condition of four people under treatment is satisfactory. The health condition of the nine-year-old, the son of the deceased Maruthonkara native, is improving. 47,605 households in containment zones have been examined. Health workers visited 14,015 homes on Monday.
Three central teams namely the National Institute of Virology Survey Team, National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) are in Kozhikode. A team from the Central Animal Protection Department also reached the district. Health Minister Veena George held a discussion with these teams.
