Officer arrested after taking bribe in instalments

KOCHI: A senior clerk of the revenue department was caught by vigilance while taking a bribe of Rs 2000. The said official, Sumin, an officer of Kochi Corporation, was arrested by the vigilance.

Sumin demanded the bribe for the ownership certificate of the Mimicry Artists Association office. He had taken Rs 900 as a bribe at the time of submitting the application for starting the office. Mimicry Association office bearers approached Vigilance after they continued to demand money to obtain the certificate.

The vigilance officials then handed over Rs 2000 currency to the complainant. The complainant then reached the office on Thursday and handed over the amount to the officer. After that, the vigilance team reached the spot and arrested Sumin. Seeing the vigilance officials, Sumin tried to hide the bribe inside his shoes but to no avail. The vigilance got the information that he is a regular bribe taker. The house of the accused was also raided by vigilance.
