NEW DELHI: Actor and former Rajya Sabha MP is unlikely to take over as the president of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) and chairman of its governing council. A media reported that sources close to him informed that the actor was pained knowing the appointment through television.

The appointment is at a time when Suresh Gopi is leading a padayatra on Gandhi Jayanti in the Thrissur Karuvannur bank fraud case. The boards of the padayatra have been installed by now. In this situation, reports said that he is unlikely to take over the new role.

It is hinted that the actor is dissatisfied on being nominated as the president of the film institute when the elections are around the corner. The appointment is for three years. Union Minister Anurag Thakur shared the news of Suresh Gopi's appointment through social media.
