'Lifted shirt and touched, missed no opportunity'; Delhi police to court

NEW DELHI: Former WFI chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh tried to sexually assault women athletes whenever possible, the Delhi Police informed the court on Sunday. Brij Bhushan was exempted from appearing during the hearing at Delhi's Rose Avenue court on Sunday. The case will be heard again on October 7.

The Delhi Police argued with reference to the complaint of a female wrestler that Brij Bhushan forcibly grabbed her during an event in Tajikistan. According to the woman wrestler’s complaint, Brij Bhushan called her into the room and hugged her tightly. When protested, he asked her to consider him like her father. However, the complainant says Bhushan was fully aware of what he was doing.

The Delhi police asked the court not to judge whether the complainant protested or not during the time of the incident but claimed that the victim should get justice. Police also mentioned Bhushan’s other shenanigans that involve lifting up the shirts of women wrestlers to feel their inner bodies.

The police also argued that the jurisdiction of the case should be Delhi based on another incident that took place at the wrestling federation headquarters. The police informed the court that Brij Bhushan was not exonerated by the monitoring committee formed by the government.

A copy of the committee's yet-to-be-publicized report was handed over to the Delhi Police. The police also argued that the accused had committed a crime punishable by imprisonment of up to three years.
