MALAPPURAM: A complaint has been filed against Akhil Mathew, personal staff of Health Minister Veena George, for accepting a bribe for the appointment of medical officer. The complaint was filed by Haridasan of Malappuram. The complaint said bribe was paid to get his son's wife appointed as medical officer. The complaint stated that the middleman is Akhil Sajeev, a resident of Pathanamthitta and he asked to pay Rs 5 lakh in installments. The complaint also said Akhil Sajeev is the former office secretary of CITU.

Meantime, Health Minister Veena George informed that she has sought an explanation from Akhil Mathew based on the complaint. The DGP was asked to probe the complaint. The minister assured that if anyone has done wrong in the investigation, they will be brought to justice and action will be taken. She said Akhil Mathew informed that he has no connection with the incident. The minister said that he has clarified the facts.

‘If there has been an attempt to impose a crime on the staff that has not been committed, it should also be investigated. Neither the government nor the department has two sides in this regard. The government has a stance that corruption should not take place. It is not known whether the department has forwarded the written complaint of the complainants to the police. I haven't seen them. The complaint received by the department has been forwarded to the police. I haven’t hoarded any complaint,' said the health minister.

The complaint was received when the minister was in Kozhikode during Nipah time. Action was already taken. The minister also clarified that the person who was accused of being an intermediary in the complaint was the person who took party action for cheating the CITU office.
