THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Brucellosis, a rare disease, has been confirmed in Thiruvananthapuram. A father and son, natives of Vembayam Vettinad, were infected with brucellosis, an animal-borne disease. The initial conclusion is that the disease was spread from cattle. Both the father and son have been admitted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. The Health Department has issued an alert following the confirmation of the disease.
This disease was detected in Kerala in 2019 and in July this year. A seven-year-old girl from Kollam Kadakkal was diagnosed with brucellosis in July. In 2019, a dairy farmer from Mayanad was diagnosed with brucellosis. However, the domestic cattle were not sick.
Brucellosis is a bacterial disease that is transmitted from animals to humans. Human-to-human transmission has not yet been detected. In addition to cattle, there is a possibility of infection from domestic animals such as cats and dogs.

Swelling all over the body is also one of the symptoms. If infected, there will be unbearable body pain. Proper treatment and rest are necessary once symptoms appear.
