KOZHIKODE: It has been found that a gang consisting of high-ranking officials was at the helm of gold smuggling through the Karipur airport. The group included CISF Assistant Commandant and Customs Officer. Police have received evidence that this gang had smuggled gold 60 times through Karipur. Gold smuggling was coordinated by CISF Assistant Commandant Naveen. The police have also received information about the Customs Officer who was with him.
Crucial evidence against the gang consisting of high-ranking officials was collected by the police team led by Malappuram SP S Sujith Das. The list containing the duty schedule of the customs officials was found in the possession of the smugglers by the police. The police received crucial information from Sharafali, a luggage attendant at the airport, and Kondotty native Faisal who had come to buy gold. According to the police, officials and smugglers used special mobile SIMs for the dealings. The gang smuggled the gold for Koduvally native Rafeeq. The police have also gathered evidence of the transactions made by officials with Rafeeq.

The other day, the Customs officials had arrested two people who tried to smuggle gold by hiding it in their bodies and mixer grinders. Around two and a half kilogram of gold was seized from Malappuram native Ameer Pathayakkandi and Kozhikode native Muhammed Rahees.
