OTTAWA: The Hindu community in Canada has urged the Trudeau government to take action against Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the chief of US-based Sikhs for Justice (SFJ). The Hindu community made the demand after Gurpatwant Singh Pannun openly supported the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas and issued threats against Indian consulates in G7 countries, including Canada. The Hindu Forum of Canada (HFC) has sent an email to Dominic LeBlanc, Canada's Minister of Public Safety, in this regard.
HFC demanded that if Gurpatwant Singh is not a Canadian citizen, he should be banned from entering the country and that if he is a Canadian citizen, a detailed investigation should be conducted against him. The HFC also demanded that if necessary. Gurpatwant Singh should be charged in connection with hate crimes, given the nature of his statements and threats. Gurpatwant Singh was born and brought up in Khankot village in Amritsar, Punjab. In 2020, the Indian government declared him a terrorist. His agricultural land was attached to the government under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. He has been charged under 22 criminal cases in India. Gurpatwant Singh is one of the main leaders of the Khalistan movement.
Gurpatwant Singh had recently released a video warning attack India of a Hamas-like attack. The Khalistani terrorist groups in Canada had also threatened to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Following this, the Centre beefed up Jaishankar's security.
