MANANTHAVADY: A complaint of medical negligence has been filed against the Wayanad Government Medical College Hospital. N S Gireesh of Thonichal Nallaroad House filed a complaint with the chief minister, district police chief and district medical officer.

Gireesh, a senior clerk of Edavaka family health center, was subjected for a hernia surgery. The surgery was performed by Dr Jubesh Athiyot. His complaint said that after the surgery, he had severe pain, urinary obstruction and swelling in his testicles. He also said that he is not even able to walk. The doctors failed to examine him even after informing this. The doctor who came for the rounds on the second day of the surgery, discharged him without examining him. When he came to remove the stich on September 20, another doctor, who saw the difference in size of the left testicle recommended a scan.

When the scanning report was shown to the doctor who performed the surgery, he gave some medicine to reduce the swelling. As Gireesh was unable to bear the pain, he visited a private hospital on September 22 and the testicle had to be removed. Girish also complained that other doctors and staff including nurses of the hospital had made changes in the treatment record. District Medical Officer P Dinesh said the complaint has been received and the incident will be investigated.
