'Huge potential for youngsters'; experts in Kerala Kaumudi's Vizhinjam seminar

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Kaumudi has steadfastly supported the idea of Vizhinjam Port and the media house stands very few among their counterparts in Kerala to have voiced for development from the very start. On Monday, Kaumudi conducted a seminar titled “ Vizhinjam Thuramugham Yadharthyam Akumbol”, meant to discuss the employment and business opportunities that the port could invite.

Elias John, President of Vizhinjam Mother Port Action Committee said that Vizhinjam International Port is a project that can take India forward. “Vizhinjam will be able to handle 10 crore containers per year in future”, Elias said in the Kerala Kaumudi conducted seminar.

“Central government support is needed for development. Thiruvananthapuram city won’t see development in a fortnight just because Vizhinjam is the mother port. A comprehensive plan should be made for it.” Elias John said that both governments should take an interest in this matter.

Venganoor Gopakumar, General Convener of Vizhinjam Port People's Association said that there are many job opportunities related to Vizhinjam International Port and the public should try to understand it. The youth should take an interest in finding and studying courses that will help them get employment at the port.

“ Individuals must be prepared to take advantage of its potential, and society must be prepared to adapt to the dynamics of international trade. Media should learn about the practical side of the shipping industry. Kerala Kaumudi supported the Vizhinjam port project from the very start and it was appreciable” said Maritime expert Nanu Vishwanath.
