Government clears more encroachments in Idukki, action following Supreme Court verdict; 229. 76 acres of land recovered

idukki

IDUKKI: The Revenue Department has stated that it has cleared the encroachment of 229.76 acres of land in Idukki. 224.21 acres of land and a building illegally occupied in Anaviratty village in Devikulam taluk were recovered. The action is based on the verdict of the Supreme Court.

Landowners Varkey Mathew and others had approached the Supreme Court against the High Court ruling that the land belonged to the government. The apex court heard this appeal and dismissed it on October 6. Dismissing all the appeals related to this, the Supreme Court directed to implement the High Court order. Following this, a team led by the Devikulam Tehsildar sealed the building and the adjoining land and set up a board stating that it was government property.

Illegal encroachment on 5.55 acres of government land at Chinnakanal village in Udumbanchola taluk was also cleared on Thursday. The encroachment was cleared by the joint action of revenue, police and land conservation forces under the leadership of a special task force formed by the government to clear encroachment in the Munnar region.
