‘Power tariff will rise every year, people should be prepared for this,’ says Minister K Krishnankutty

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The power tariff will increase every year, said Minister K Krishnankutty. The minister said there is no other option but to increase the fares and people should be ready for it. The minister added that it is necessary to proceed in the manner fixed by the regulatory commission.

The power tariff was increased in the state yesterday, which is big blow to the people struggling with the price hike. The average increase is up to 20 paise per unit. The rate rise is not applicable to those who consume less than 40 units per month. There will be a 20 percent rate hike for those using 100 units. It is reported that after the rise in electricity tariff, the water charge will also increase. There will be a 5 percent rate hike from April 1. The water authority will give a recommendation to the government in February regarding the increase in charges. This is according to the condition put forward by the central government to raise the borrowing limit. From April 2021, the basic tariff will be increased by five percent. The central directive is to continue this every year.
