Asfaq scares court translator with horrific story; Advocate shares her ordeal

KOCHI: Advocate Binny Elizabeth was frozen when Aluva case convict Asfaq Alam explained in detail about the crime he committed. “ As a mother, my mind was shattered. There was not an iota of guilt in his face while he testified.” Binny says.

Although she has been appointed as a translator by the court in many cases, the Aluva case ripped her mind apart and gave her insights into how cruel people can be. According to Binny, Asfaq came to court every time like he was on a sojourn.

“ I was scared to talk with him. Police officials already gave me a warning about his conduct. They told Asfaq loved talking with women and asked me to practice caution. After talking with him, I couldn’t agree more with the police officials. I always wore a gown since his looks were piercing and disturbing at the same time” Adv Binny said.

“A POCSO case was registered against Asfaq in Delhi in 2018, and he thought he would find a way out this time too. Even if released, the accused will repeat the same offences. His mind is programmed in such a way.”

Binny, a Kendriya Vidhyalaya alumni became proficient in Hindi after interacting with her Hindi friends at school. Binny’s father M M Josy was a naval base officer and had a lot of North Indian friends in his close coterie which also helped enhance her Hindi skills.

“Yesterday was the 13th death anniversary of my father, I am satisfied that I successfully completed a big task in my professional life,” Binny said.

Binny’s husband is businessman Sabu Joseph. They have two children Ivin Joseph Sabu and Anjwin. Binny has been practising law for the last 15 years.
