NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court questioned the timing of Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal's arrest in the liquor policy case.
The court asked the Enforcement Directorate (ED) why the arrest was made right before the Lok Sabha elections.
Hearing a plea filed by Kejriwal against the arrest, the court also directed the ED to give an explanation on the issue on May 3.
It is also noteworthy that the Supreme Court asked the crucial question when the opposition parties alleged that Kejriwal's arrest was politically motivated.
Kejriwal's lawyer Manu Abhishek Singhvi told the court that a bail application was not move as Kejriwal's arrest was "illegal".
The ED claims that corruption and financial irregularities have taken place in the Delhi Liquor Policy case and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is at the helm of the corruption. The main allegation is that the money received through the liquor policy was used for elections in Goa.
