Mariyakutty seeks High Court intervention against false propaganda

THODUPUZHA: Mariyakutty, an elderly woman who protested the denial of welfare pension by begging with an earthen pot has approached the High Court to counter false allegations against her. Allegations falsely claim she owns one and a half acres of land and two houses.

The village officer in Mannamkandam testified that Mariyakutty doesn't own any land. In response, Mariyakutty has appealed to the High Court to intervene and halt such misleading campaigns. She urges the government to ensure proper pension payment. Mariyakutty plans to file a defamation case and has received support from the Youth Congress for legal assistance.

Supporters of CPM spread rumours that Mariyakutty possesses valuable assets. Their party publication alleged she owns two houses, one rented for Rs 5,000 and around one and a half acres of land. They claimed her children and siblings live abroad. However, when Mariyakutty requested documentation about land ownership at the village office, the officer confirmed no land under her name in Adimali village. The claim about two houses has also been debunked.

Mariyakutty challenged the CPM to prove the whereabouts of her daughter who supposedly works abroad. The delay in welfare pension prompted Mariyakutty (87) and Anna Ousep (80) from the rundown Thaanikuzhi bridge to resort to begging in Adimali last week.
