KANNUR: One polling officer and BLO were suspended on Saturday after receiving a complaint from LDF about voting malpractice in Kannur. The LDF filed a complaint with the Election Commission alleging voter impersonation in booth 70 in Kannur. It was K Kamalakshi who had applied for house voting but ended up giving away the vote to an impersonator.

On the 15th of April, the BLO Geetha took the polling officers to the house of another woman named V Kamalakshi to take a vote. So 82-year-old V Kamalakshi voted in the place of K Kamalakshi. The LDF filed a complaint against this and now the Assistant Collector has been deputed for further investigation into the incident.

At the same time, the district administration has decided to tighten measures to prevent fraudulent voting after the incident in Kalliasseri. Polling officials have been instructed to ensure the privacy of citizens while recording their vote at home. Kasaragod District Collector Inbasekar Kalimuthu warned about legal action against those who spread misleading messages about EVM commissioning.
