KOZHIKODE: More information has surfaced in the case registered against actor and former MP Suresh Gopi for misbehaving with a female journalist. The police assess that there is no merit on the complaint against the actor. In this situation, reports said the police will not issue any notices again. Prima facie the police found that an offense under section 354 A (sexual assault) had not been committed.
The police will file the charge sheet in the case on Wednesday. The police examined the video clippings of the incident. After grilling the actor yesterday, he was released in the evening. Police informed that the actor will be summoned after issuing a notice. However, the situation is such that the actor need not be summoned again after issuing a notice. There were doubts and other matters related to the case and it got cleared yesterday, said the police.
The actor reached the station yesterday at 12 noon with his brother Subhash Gopi, relatives and other BJP leaders. Suresh Gopi, who was interrogated by top police officer, was released after issuing a notice. DCP K E Baiju said that he was released with the direction to appear if necessary. City Police Commissioner Rajpal Meena, ACP Biju Raj and special branch ACP A Umesh were also present in the station. Senior advocate B N Sivasankaran appeared for Suresh Gopi.
Thousands of BJP workers including women reached the Nadakkavu police station in the morning after knowing that Suresh Gopi would appear. BJP state president K Surendran, P K Krishnadas, M T Ramesh, Shobha Surendran, K P Sreesan, V K Sajeevan and others were also there in the station. When Suresh Gopi arrived, the police had a tough time to control the activists.
Media workers were initially not allowed inside the station. Later, top police officials came and allowed only the media workers to enter. Suresh Gopi returned at 2.30 pm after giving his statement. A case was registered against the actor for misbehaving with the journalist in Kozhikode during an inaugural function.
