THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Actor Indrans, who dropped out of class 4 and was sent by his family to learn tailoring, will become the brand ambassador of Kerala's Literacy (Saksharatha) Mission. The Literacy Mission will make recommendations to the government. This is part of the twenty-fifth anniversary of Equity Studies.
Indrans, who dropped out of school and sewed his life on a sewing machine, has opened up about the pain of not being able to study even when he became a great actor in cinema. Now, at the age of 67, he has joined the 10th standard equivalency studies.
Indrans told Kerala Kaumudi that he was excited when he came to know that he could pass the 10th standard through Sunday classes. "Life circumstances hindered my education. In my childhood, boys' education stopped by the time they reached class four. Wasn't it a time when we were worried about getting even ration? After growing a little older, a boy should earn a living. All those who studied with me started to work as beedi labourers and construction works after Class 4. My family sent me to learn tailoring. It became a livelihood.", Indrans said.
The ten-month equivalence class is in Thiruvananthapuram Medical College High School. Indrans also said that there is tension whether he will be able to attend class every Sunday during cinema shooting far away.
