Back in 2016, when Akhila Ashokan decided to embrace Islam and marry Shafin Jahan, Kerala saw a new wave of tumultuous occurrences unfold. Akhila’s father Ashokan went to the High Court and annulled her marriage as the court allowed Ashokan to have custody of his daughter. Drama ensued as the Supreme Court overturned the HC judgement and allowed Hadiya to live with her partner Jahan which made the political cauldron boiling with accusations of ‘love jihad’.
The issue later ebbed away slowly but was reignited back with the release of the movie ‘The Kerala Story’ which was purportedly based on Akhila’s life. And now, Hadiya is back again grabbing headlines with news about her remarriage. According to CASA( Christian Association and Alliance for Social Action), Hadiya has remarried a man from Thiruvananthapuram and has not disclosed his identity fearing media publicity. CASA says it was PFI workers who initiated the remarriage and allowed Hadiya to move away from Jahan’s life.
Hadiya used to live along with Jahan in ‘Sathya Sarani’ in Manjeri which also had a PFI party office nearby. She has set up a Homeo on top of a complex on this premises. However, her relationship with Jahan entered turbulent days and was on the verge of a split.PFI workers were informed about their failing marriage and they tried a truce with them and convinced them to continue living together.
However Jahan left Hadiya soon after the reconciliation, gifting her a forlorn life; separated from her parents, ditched by her husband and the 'altruist' PFI workers losing the earlier vigour they had in her matters. It was CASA president Kevin Peter who disclosed the news of Hadiya’s remarriage after having a phone conversation with her father Ashokan.
