Not just chappati and chicken; ice cream and fruits will be available in prison from now on, new dishes for prisoners

MUMBAI: Pani puri, ice cream and other new dishes are being prepared for the prisoners in the jail canteen. T-shirt, hair dye etc. will also be provided on top of this. Maharashtra is implementing the new scheme for the mental health of prisoners. 173 new items have been added including for entertainment.

Pickles, tender coconut, coffee powder, sweets, panipuri, ice cream, and fruits are just some of them. Facewashes, hair dyes, Bermuda, and medicines for tobacco addiction are also included. ADGP Amitabh Gupta says that the restrictions are affecting the mental condition of the prisoners and that is why such a measure is taken.

The move is part of maintaining the mental health of prisoners. Changes including in the matter of food are good for their health. A similar change was made in Uttar Pradesh earlier this month. Books including religious texts, were provided for the prisoners and reading habit was encouraged.
