THRISSUR: The recounting of votes to determine the union chairman will be held on Saturday at Kerala Varma College In Thrissur. The recounting of votes was done as per the instructions of the High Court on the petition filed by KSU chairman candidate S Srikuttan. The counting of votes will begin at nine in the morning in the principal's chamber. The counting process will be completely videotaped.
After much drama and the late-hour victory of SFI just by one vote and that too in unscrupulous circumstances, KSU approached the High Court for respite. The court heard the petition and found that there was an error in the counting including invalid votes. Earlier, when the votes were first counted, Srikuttan got 896 votes and SFI's Anirudhan got 895 votes. SFI then pressured the management to conduct a recounting and then Anirudhan was announced the winner dubiously with a sudden increase of 11 votes.
The KSU alleged that the elections were sabotaged with the abetment of the left teachers' union. KSU had also accused Minister R Bindu and Cochin Devaswom Board President of interfering in subverting the counting of votes.
