THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A college student died after she lost control of her scooter on a busy road in Thiruvananthapuram city. The deceased has been identified as Gopika Uday (20), daughter of Pangappara native Uday and Nisha. Gopika was a third-year graduate student of Mar Ivanios College.

The accident occurred at around 7.30 pm on Monday. Gopika and her sister Jyothika were returning to their mother's flat in Marappalam after going to the gymnasium. When they reached PMG, the rear tire of a nearby KSRTC bus burst and suffered a puncture. According to the police, on hearing the loud noise, Gopika lost control of the scooter, fell on the road and hit her head on the road. Gopika suffered a severe head injury despite wearing a helmet. Although she was immediately rushed to a private hospital, her life could not be saved. Jyothika doesn't have any major injuries.

A preliminary investigation found that there was no evidence of the bus hitting the scooter. Museum CI said that more clarity can be obtained on the matter after checking the CCTV visuals. Meanwhile, a holiday has been declared today for Mar Ivanios College following Gopika's demise.
