THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A young doctor from Thiruvananthapuram Medical College was implicated in the suicide of Dr Shahna. In the case, Dr. Ruwise has been charged with abetment of suicide under the provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act. Ruwise was implicated in the case based on statements from Shahna’s mother and sister.

Earlier, there were accusations about Medical college police not registering a case against Dr Ruwise for Shahna’s suicide. On Wednesday night the police took statements from Shahna’s mother and it was at this time that she revealed about Shahna’s relationship with Ruwise, who was the president of the doctors' association. According to Shahna’s mother, Ruwise visited their home for talks about a possible marriage but demanded a large dowry more than what the family could afford.

Soon after the marriage plans got dented, Shahna stayed at her home for a month without visiting the hospital. It was only after repeated encouragement from her family that Shahna returned to the hospital. However tragically, Shahna decided to end her life upon reaching the hospital. From her mother’s statement, it was well evident that the victim suffered mental trauma from Ruwise and it led to the suicide. The police were thus forced to register a case.
