South Africa dominates India in Boxing Day Test, takes series lead

cricket

CENTURION: South African bowlers outclassed India in the Boxing Day Test securing victory by an innings and 32 runs on day three. India's second innings fell short at 131 runs in 34.1 overs with only Virat Kohli (76) and Shubman Gill (26) reaching double figures.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a duck by Rabada marking the 14th time the bowler has taken Sharma's wicket. Other Indian batsmen struggled; Yaswasi Jaiswal (5), Shreyas Iyer (6), KL Rahul (4) and others failed to make an impact.

Despite Kohli's steady performance, lack of support from teammates led to India's defeat. For South Africa, Andre Berger claimed four wickets while Marco Janssen and Kagiso Rabada took three and two wickets respectively.

Earlier in the match, South Africa posted 408 in their first innings with Dean Elgar top-scoring at 185 and Marco Jansen contributing an unbeaten 84. Among Indian bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah stood out with four wickets. The series now sees the hosts taking a 1-0 lead, with the final Test scheduled in Cape Town on January 3.
