IDUKKI: Peruvanthanam station's Grade SIs Sally P Basheer and Hanish along with Grade ASI Biju P George faced suspension following allegations of accepting a bribe amounting to Rs 15,000. This was in exchange for not implicating an elderly man who had aided the police in a case. The action came after a report from the District Police Chief under Ernakulam Range IG Putta Vimaladitya.
The incident involved Sreedharan, a resident of Peruvanthanam Mukkuzhi who happens to be the father-in-law of a policeman stationed at Mundakkayam station. Sreedharan played a crucial role in assisting the police in arresting a long-wanted suspect at the same station. However, subsequent to this, the woman who lived with the captured suspect assaulted and verbally abused Sreedharan.
A case was officially registered on November 29 by the Peruvanthanam police based on Sreedharan's complaint. Two days later, the same woman lodged a complaint alleging molestation. It was discovered that a bribe of Rs 15,000 was extorted from Sreedharan with the officials threatening to frame him in a false rape case. Additionally, the police accepted a sum of 2000 rupees from the woman.
The order issued has mandated the District Crime Branch DYSP to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter. Their report will outline the necessary punitive measures to be taken against those involved.
