Gold hidden inside secret chamber in juicer machine; gold worth Rs 63.87 lakhs seized at Karipur airport

KOZHIKODE: Police have seized one kg of gold smuggled from Saudi Arabia to India outside the Calicut airport. The police seized one kg of gold from Feroz (47), a resident of Karuvarakundu, who arrived at the Calicut airport on an Indigo flight from Jeddah at 9:30 yesterday morning.

The gold was found hidden in a secret chamber in the armature of the juicer machine. It weighs 999.6 grams. It is worth Rs 63.87 lakh in the market. The police made the arrest based on a tip-off received by the district police chief.

Feroz was taken into custody from the parking area of the airport. The police also arrested Karuvankallu native Shamsuddin (49) and Vaniyambalam native Naufal Babu, who were waiting for Feroz outside the airport, based on the information received while questioning Feroz. A Vandoor-based gang is behind the smuggling. The seized gold will be submitted to the court and a detailed report will be submitted to the Customs Preventive for further investigation.
