'Why give alimony, is it not like a dowry'; if dowry is wrong, alimony paid to wife is also wrong, says Shine Tom Chacko

Actor Shine Tom Chacko's response on marriage and dowry is garnering attention. Shine Tom said that if the dowry is wrong, the alimony paid to the wife after the divorce is also wrong. The actor's response came during an interview given to a channel during the promotion of his latest movie 'Vivekanandan Viralaanu.'

"Those who like dowry can give it, and those who don't like it, need not give it. Why pay alimony to the wife at the time of divorce? Isn't it something like a dowry? When gold and money are given to the husband at the time of marriage, the same is returned to the wife at the time of divorce," Shine Tom Chacko said.

"Alimony is decided by the court. Why should a man give money to his wife upon getting a divorce? Isn't that what is given even before marriage? Shouldn't equality be the same everywhere? I have also paid money during the divorce. Aren't the two equal? If one is seeking a divorce, why should the other pay money?" Shine Tom asked.

"Some say they are giving dowry wholeheartedly for their daughter. On the other hand, some others say that gave dowry as per the demand of the groom's family. Alimony should not be paid. We all saw that Hrithik Roshan had to give a huge amount as alimony when he got divorced from his wife," he added.
