BHOPAL: Although the Dowry Prohibition Act came into force way back in 1961, the dowry system remains prevalent in our society even today. Recently, a groom called off his wedding as the bride's family failed to provide him with the items he demanded as dowry. The shocking incident took place in Madhya Pradesh. The groom had demanded a motorbike and a gold chain as dowry. He called off the wedding as the bride's father did not fulfil his demands on the day of the wedding.

The wedding was supposed to take place on March 4. After reaching the wedding hall in the morning, the groom's family demanded the bike and a gold chain as dowry from the bride's family. However, the bride's family responded that they could not fulfil the demands put forward by the groom. Following this, a verbal altercation broke out between the two families. In the meantime, the groom grabbed the collar of the bride's father. With this, tensions escalated between both families. Following this, the groom and his family left the hall after calling off the wedding.
