SFI leader stabbed in Maharaja's; one student arrested

KOCHI: An SFI leader was stabbed in Ernakulam Maharaja's College on Thursday morning. Unit Secretary Nasser Abdul Rahman, who was stabbed inside the campus, suffered serious injuries and was admitted to a private hospital in Kochi. Unit committee member Ashwathy was also injured. The SFI has accused fraternity activists of being behind the attack.

Following the incident, the college and hostel were closed indefinitely. Ijilal, a third-year environmental chemistry student, was arrested in the incident that took place around 11:30 on Wednesday night. He is the eighth accused in the case.

Both Nasser and Ashwathy are undergoing treatment at the private hospital in Kochi. Ashwathy was not seriously injured. Nasser has five wounds on his leg, chest and back. He underwent surgery yesterday.

The Ernakulam Central Police has registered a case against 14 people, including KSU-Fraternity Movement women activists, and five identifiable persons. The accused have been booked under 9 sections, including attempt to murder.
