Tiger runs away after injuring pregnant cow in Wayanad, locals stage protest

SULTHAN BATHERY (WAYANAD): A tiger entered a human settlement here and mauled a cow. The said cow belonged Padipura Narayanan, residing in 6th mile in Chethalayam. The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon. A cow was tied to graze in a place adjacent to the house. Narayanan was also nearby. By the time he heard the cry of the cow, the tiger left the cow and ran away into the forest.

The eight-month pregnant cow was seriously injured in its neck. Following the incident, forest department officials reached the spot but returned suddenly, leading to protests. IC Balakrishnan MLA reached the spot after being informed by the locals and called Wildlife Warden Dinesh Kumar. After this, wildlife officials inspected the place under the leadership of Assistant Wildlife Warden P Salim. The forest department has installed four cameras in the area. Police, revenue department officials and a veterinarian reached the spot from Sulthan Bathery. Local residents protested demanding the capture of the tiger.
