Son, daughter to be terminated from service after death of mother they abandoned, proceedings begin

KUMILI: It is heard that a man and a woman will be terminated from their jobs in connection with the death of their mother, abandoned by her children. The police has registered a case against them. The police registered a case against her children Saji (55), an employee of Kerala Bank and his sister Siji (50) over the death of Annakutty of Attapallam, who died while undergoing treatment.

Panchayat officials said that the process to dismiss Siji, a temporary employee of Kumali Panchayat, has been initiated. Saji works as a collection agent. The Kumili Kerala Bank, where Saji works, has sought a report from the police. It is indicated that he will be dismissed from the job based on this.

Kumili sub inspector Lijo P Mani said the case was registered after including charges of ignoring senior citizens and parents. Annakutty, abandoned by her children, died Saturday morning at Kottayam Medical College. Annakutty was admitted to the medical college on Friday with the help of police, locals and ward members.


After taking her to the hospital, the sub inspector called her son several times but got a reply that he has to feed the dog. Hundreds of people paid their last respects to the body kept at Kumali Bus Stand, before the funeral at St Thomas Ferona Church at Kumili Attapallam.


The district collector and sub collector were present in the church till the funeral rites were over. The rites were conducted under the leadership of Lijo P Mani. Her son was amidst the crowd and paid respects to his own mother like the others. It is heard that her son attended the funeral rites to evade case. It is heard that he was against his mother for sharing the money she got after selling her land at first mile. Annakutty was staying alone in Attapallam colony.
