ALAPPUZHA: The Alappuzha South Police has booked six people for allegedly insulting Judge VG Sridevi, who awarded the death sentence to 15 people for murdering BJP leader Ranjith Sreenivasan. The FIR for inciting violence is against Beevi KU, Aslam Valavupacha, Naseermon Khalil, Azad Ameer, Rafi Thiruvananthapuram and Shafeeq.
Calling the case 'rarest of rare', the Mavelikkara Additional Sessions Court awarded death sentences to all accused and also pointed out that the convicts who brutally killed Ranjith Sreenivasan in front of his mother, wife and daughter do not deserve mercy.
After pronouncing the verdict, there were threats against the judge, including on social media. Later, the police security for Judge VG Sridevi was also strengthened.
On December 19, 2021, assailants broke into Ranjith Sreenivasan's house in Vellakinar in Alappuzha and hacked him to death in front of his mother, wife and daughter. Popular Front of India (PFI) activists Naizam of Machanad Colony in Alappuzha's Komalapuram, Ajmal of Vadakkechirappuram in Mannancherry's Ambalakadavu, Anoop from West Munduvadakkal in Alappuzha, Muhammad Aslam of Erakkattu in Aryadu Thekku, Abdul Kalam (Salam) of Njaravelil in Mannanchery, Abdul Kalam of Darussabeen House in Adivaram, Sarafudeen from Alappuzha's West Thaivelikakam, Manshad of Udumbithara in Mannanchery, Jaseeb Raja from Alappuzha's West Kadavathusherichirayil, Sameer from Thayil in Komalapuram, Naseer of Kannarkkadu in Aryadu in Mannanchery North, Zakir Hussain from Chavadiyil in Mannanchery, Thekkeveliyil Shaji (Poovathil Shaji) and Nooruddin Purayidathil Shernas Ashraf from Mulakkal has been convicted in the case.
